A new WiFi experience for your house, introducing Comcast’s xFi

This post was sponsored by Comcast xfinity. All opinions are our own.

Recently, I was invited by Comcast to their #xfinitynight at the Watermark Seaport Apartments in South Boston on a beautiful night in May. We were treated to some delicious food and drinks and had the chance to try out some of their new offerings which I’m happy to tell you about.

First up, they had a virtual reality simulator which they are going to have at all Celtics and Red Sox games where you can put on a pair of virtual reality goggles and get a chance to see what it’s like to step on center court at the TD Garden for a celtics game or get a behind the scenes tour of the locker room and practice facility.

Next, we went into an apartment that was staged to showcase the latest home offerings for the consumer. Here are some of the highlights:

There is an upgraded WiFi home router and modem as well as the latest edition cable box along with their xfinity home products as well. Recently they launched xFi, a next-generation method of controlling your home WiFi straight from your mobile device or tablet, available right now to customers with compatible routers/modems. As you follow the easy set up process, you can create different device groupings per individual so that you can troubleshoot connectivity issues per device as well as control network access per individual/device in case you want to only have the kids’ tablets accessible to the internet during daytime hours. xFi provides a simple dashboard to set up your home WiFi network, find your password, see what devices are connected, troubleshoot issues , set parental controls and even pause network access during dinnertime or bed time. xFi can be controlled from a mobile app, website or from your X1 voice remote on your TV.

X1 Platform
As we previously mentioned, Comcast xfinity came out with the X1 platform and we’ve been loving it! You can now get an xfinity report with voice control which makes it easy for your little ones to play the latest episodes of their favorite TV show. You can also get Netflix on X1 and even a special area on the platform just for kids called Kids Zone.

Updated xfinity stream app

xfinity stream (formerly xfinity TV): this app makes your cloud DVR available on your mobile device including most of your service available while in the home. If you’re outside of the home you can view select channels as well as download previous recordings to your device to watch on the go.

Hey guys! Comcast released some new features to the Xfinity My Account app and there's also new Xfinity Stores popping up all over the place!

Some cool new features of the My Account app available on iOS, Android and the web are:

  • Request a time for a Comcast representative to call you back.
  • Monitor a technician’s arrival time for scheduled appointments.
  • Restart a modem or cable box, perform a system refresh, pair a remote or troubleshoot solutions.
  • Check appointment time and reschedule appointments.
  • View and pay your bill or check payment status.
  • Find out if there's an outage in your area and when things should get back to normal.
  • Chat with a technical expert on Twitter.
  • Easily view, change and share your Wi-Fi network name and password.
  • Find your neighborhood XFINITY Store with hours, directions and services offered.
  • Change your preferred email address for receiving communications from Comcast and your account password.
  • Get notifications of scheduled maintenance that may impact performance of services up to three days in advance.
  • Make a one-time payment on your XFINITY account or set up autopay.

If you want, you can still call Comcast on the phone but it's really nice to be able to use the app. I found with a recent service call to my house, the app would give me updates about when the technician was near my house then when he arrived and completed the job too.

You can use the app to request that Comcast call you back, a nice time saving feature!

Comcast is investing in their technology! They double the network capacity every 18-24 months to meet the needs of customers. They have have technology that lets them know where weaknesses exist within the network and are able to fix them before we they exist or service is impacted.

Comcast has been renovating their stores throughout Massachusetts to ensure a better customer experience and to get folks in the door and reached within 10 minutes. I don't know too many stores that have that prompt turn around time.

NOTE: We were provided with compensation for this post. All opinions are our own.

Comcast Xfinity X1 now supports Netflix and your Home!

Hey guys! Glad to bring you some updates for Comcast Xfinity service here in Massachusetts. Their X1 service which is pretty cool now supports Netflix as well as your smart home! The Netflix service should now be supported on millions of X1 boxes across the country! We've been X1 customers for the better part of a year now and it's pretty great. Some new updates include faster internet service (by 33% at no cost) in addition to the Netflix service.

Netflix content will be fully integrated into Xfinity On Demand, enabling X1 customers to watch past and current seasons of shows available on Netflix. If you're a current Netflix customer you can just sign in through X1 to your Netflix account. It's super easy to use and you can just start it by pressing the voice command button on your X1 remote and say "Netflix". If you're new to Netflix, you can sign up through this partnership and the service will be added to your Comcast bill which will make things easier to pay since it will be on a single bill.

The other cool thing about this product is that when you use the Last button on your X1 remote you will see Netflix shows and movies as well as regular TV shows and on-demand items in the last viewed list.

As for Comcast Xfinity Home service, this service can be added to your existing subscription as a bundle and you will get the peace of mind home security along with your TV, internet and phone subscription. You can add different devices like cameras, Nest thermostats and other items. You get 24/7 professional home monitoring that can be armed and disarmed remotely, live video monitoring, and remote control of the entire system through your Xfinity apps on your iOS and Android device.

NOTE: We were provided with a Nest thermostat as well as a gift card for this review. No other compensation was provided.
